The company was founded by Darren McBride, as "Sierra Computer Control" in 1982, pioneering work in the field of English/Arabic computing for various Middle Eastern governments. In 1987 as Sierra Computers, the company shifted focus to the resale of computer equipment and technical services for the business community. Soon the operation moved to a larger location at 460 California Street, near downtown Reno.
